Ride Report Colorado Part II. This was all about the famous Ouray - Silverton - Durango "million dollar highway". I think it got its name as it cost a million dollars per mile to build. You can see why. The early morning start from Grand Junction was a 100 mile drag down the inter-state.
Or what about not letting them escape in the first place.
The San Juan mountains loom large as I approach Ouray. Enjoy the ride as it unfolds over the handlebars >>>>
Phew. That was the million dollar highway.
From Cortez the landscape became a little less Rockie-ish.
I was heading for Four Corners, the only quadripoint in the US where 4 states meet.
Four Corners is on Navajo land and they administer the monument.
This is where Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado meet.
And of course you have to take the touristy photo where you have a limb in each state. I'm a Twister player from way back so it wasn't a problem.
The crazy thing is that when you leave Four Corners only one state, New Mexico, says good bye to you. Of all the candidates for Apache County sheriff my vote clearly goes to Joseph Dedman.
The sun was setting as I made tracks for Kayenta, Utah, as a springboard for Monument Valley tomorrow.
Out in the middle of nowhere, a petrol station.
Playing with shadows.
The long road to Kayenta.
That's Kayenta in the distance. I asked at Navajoland B&B for their room rate. It was $100 for a teepee. I choked. I asked how much to pitch my own tent by their bus. He said no charge.
And dinner tonight was a humble affair in the tent doing this web site update. The donuts were stale and the Fanta flat after two days in my top box. They were beautiful.
