Ride Report OK folks pay attention to this state's ride report. It is a beauty. Something happened today that you are about to share in and it will challenge your belief systems. I have experienced a life-changing event tonight. It may change yours. Read on. Firstly, Missouri. It started as an extension of Kansas - flat, hot and straight. But through some expert route selection I soon found some great back roads which carved through, believe it or not, hills and woodland. I've really just pinged the bottom left corner of Missouri but made an effort to see more of the state as you can see from my dog leg route in the above map. But enough of the boring stuff. Listen to this. If you are a student of the paranormal you will have heard about the Tri-State Spook Light. There is a gravel road, officially in Oklahoma, but on the state line with Missouri, which has been the site of many sightings of a supernatural and strange spook light. Search the net for "Tri State Spook Light" and you will happen on web sites devoted to these mysterious sightings such as http://www.ghostresearch.org/Investigations/Joplin.html and http://www.thespooklight.com/faq.php?lng=en . The Tri State one is particularly well known as it is what is known as a significant other-world event. In other words, very spooky. So being in the area I programmed the GPS to take me to the gravel road in question. The coordinates are N36 57.506 W94 37.945. The road is E40 and I was at the intersection with road S700. It was mid-afternoon. I ended up at the start of the road and looking down it, it just looked like a remote country road to me. However, something didn't gel. You know how you get a feeling you are being watched? As I gazed down the gravel road there appeared to be a haze or sort of cloud of dust at the end. You can see this in the photos below but read on first before scrolling down to them. I took my photos and left. I believe my parting comment was something like ppppfffffffttttt as I am a skeptic and cynic for anything UFO-ey or similar mumbo jumbo. Spook light? Why here? Just because it's near the intersection of 3 states? I rode away. However setting up camp that night I knew I had to go back after dark. Being at that gravel road hours earlier pulled me back. I can't describe the sensation. It took me an hour to return to the road. It was dark and there were no houses around nor any other lights other than some stars above. It was a hot and clear night. I switched the bike's lights off and stared up the road. After 3-4 minutes I noticed what looked like a dancing torchlight perhaps a kilometre up the road. It was hard to tell the distance as the light bobbled around. It was bright and orb-shaped. I flicked on the bike's headlight to see if I could illuminate whatever was making the light & in an instant the orb of light swooshed up and over the trees out of sight. I switched off the bike's headlight and after 2 minutes this time two smaller lights appeared. They danced all over the place and again seemed to be down the far end of the road, perhaps 800 metres or so. This time I switched on my hazard lights and the two orange indicators blinked out into the darkness. Immediately the two smaller orbs were joined by a third glow, this time not moving, simply a stationery light of very very bright intensity. The two smaller orbs seemed to dance around the "daddy" light. I switched off the indicators and thought about riding up the road. But to be honest I was rooted to the spot. Then without warning all three lights seemed to bounce twice on the road like tennis balls and flicked off over the trees as the road was again plunged into darkness. They never came back. Now here's the proof. I have a digital camera picture you will not believe. I have these spook lights in a photo. It will shock you to the core and you will not be able to offer an explanation for what the photo shows. I tried several shots but the rest are grainy and blurred. This momentous photo I will publish in my book so you will not see it on this site. It is too mind-blowing. I rode back to the campsite trying to rationalise whether I now believe in the Tri-State Spook Light. What could cause those orbs and what could cause them to swoop up and over the tree line? Did they appear as a result of the bike lights being switched on? Is there any rational common-sense explanation or is the spook light a real phenomenon? Who knows. I can show you the daytime pictures below but you'll have to wait for the book to see the "big one". It will be worth the wait. You may become a believer. Please don't email me asking to see the photo. If anything NASA should get it. I may just have captured a ghostly supernatural occurrence. Hopefully it will sell books.
Here is the gravel road, site of the Tri-State Spook Light sightings.
Looking up the road I had a sense it was a bit spooky. There was a fine dust present down the road (see it?) which didn't go away. No vehicle ever came down the road. The lights I saw after dark were dancing around about where those trees are at the far end.
I tried to imagine a spook light. It just didn't gel, but then again something was pulling at my sub-conscious. I knew I had to go back at dark.
Even the locals try to make some capital out of the spook light "myth". Many people turn up and see nothing.
One last glance down the spook light road. This is where I positioned the bike when I returned that night. |
