Ride Report

Wisconsin, or should I say the very quick first visit to Wisconsin, represented the first sight of the Great Lakes at Lake Superior. It's impossible to get a feeling for the size of this, the largest lake in the world. There was no shore on the horizon and I was looking out over the tip of the lake.

I left looking for a campground so late that I was riding around lonely country roads looking for any sign of a public campground, in the fading light. I even contemplated knocking on someone's door & offering them $10 to pitch the tent on their back lawn. Finally saw a sign to Amnicom Falls and the little camping symbol. Sure enough there was a series of campsites in the woods and that was that. I learned quickly how to pitch a tent in the dark.

The next morning I took the coast road tracking the shore of Lake Superior, to Bayfield, fridge magnet heaven. From there it was a short burst to the state line with Michigan.
