With great reluctance this workhorse Suzuki DL1000 V-Strom is offered for sale as the new pretender, a 2012 DL650 V-Strom, has taken over its prime parking spot in the garage. Thus the DL1000 is in danger of becoming an ornament which is a huge shame as it has many more kms of riding in it.
Here are the specs:
Year: 2004
Current mileage: 107,000 kms
Owners: 1
Current tyres: Continental TKC80s with estimated life left 2-3,000kms on-road use, more off-road
Last major service: 100,000kms (replace fork seals, replace front brake pads, new filters, oil change + check all operations)
Fork head bearing replaced: Dec 14
Age of chain: new chain + sprockets at 90,000 kms
Fuel tank: 22 litre
WOF expires: 25/12/2015
Rego expires: 21/3/2015
Reason for selling:
3 bikes in garage is 1 too many & DL1000 is hardly being ridden.
Would suit:
a rider who wants a primarily on-road touring bike with massive luggage capacity and the ability to ride gravel when it presents itself
a rider who likes tinkering around with fine tuning the bike's performance & endlessly playing with the Ohlins shock permutations
Luggage:
2 x blue Givi E41N monokey side cases with upper door opening by a 3-digit combination meaning you can dip in and out of the panniers without unlocking them while on the bike. Will fit 2 helmets in each case. These E41s are known to be in the 'luxury' band of panniers. Retail price is approx. $800 per case. The blue colour perfectly matches the V-Strom's fairing colour. The panniers have hardly a scratch or scuff on them as the panniers are relatively new.
1 x Givi E46 monokey top box with blue lid. This top box has a huge capacity & the colour matches the rest of the bike's dark blue colourings. In pristine condition.
Special features of this bike:
The V-Strom has been kitted out for long-distance touring + some adventure riding protection:
SW-Motech bash plate to replace the factory plastic cowling
Radguard radiator guars
Givi crash bars
Windscreen shelf for your electronic devices
2 x RAM mount balls + an enduro bar fixed to handlebars
2 x power sockets
MRA VarioTouring windscreen with 7 settings
Ventura headlight protectors
Back rest on top box
Ohlins shock absorber
Oxford heated grips
Hi viz LED pulsing brake light, connectable under seat
Stoneguard 3M film covers the silver fern graphics on each side of the fairing
Centre stand - although it's quite rusty
Spare parts:
There is a crate full of new spare parts including the factory parts replaced by after market parts.
Price
Selling everything you see in the photos below being bike, luggage, spare parts & all accessories for $5,995 start price on auction
The near new luggage is probably valued close to $2k on its own
Compare this with other older V-Strom 1000s listed on TradeMe with minimal extras
Bike is ready to ride away by pickup from Avonhead, Christchurch or if you live elsewhere a company like BikeTranz will ship door to door (example of price: Christchurch > Auckland $500)
Has the bike been dropped?
Once in Australia and twice in America the bike toppled over as the sidestand sunk into soft earth. At the most I lost an indicator, otherwise no damage thanks to a previous set of crash bars and an old set of panniers.
As you can see from the photos of the fairing + tank there are no dents, chips or scrapes.
What are the bad points of this bike?
The centre stand is a bit rusty. I'd be replacing it before long for cosmetic looks or re-powder coat.
There are the usual boot scuffs down the bottom of the chassis by the footpegs
On the black panels with the "NZ" graphic that you can see in the photos there is some discolouration caused by the stoneguard 3M film being peeled off too quickly, possibly meths or turtle wax would buff it up again but I haven't been bothered as it is hidden behind the panniers.
Want to come around for an inspection?
You are welcome to inspect the bike in person
The bike is currently not insured, thus you can't take it on the road for a test ride. However we have a long shared driveway. If you want to fully test ride it we will need to drive out together to a quiet back road in the country and you can do a few kms away from attention.
